So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish!

A fish that has been reported to trigger LSD-like hallucinations when eaten has been discovered in UK waters.

The fish, Sarpa Salpa, is commonly caught off the coast of South Africa and in the Mediterranean but turned up in the nets of Cornish fisherman Andy Giles.

Sarpa Salpa Hallucination Fish

At first Giles spent several days trying to look-up the specimen on the Internet but failed and finally handed it over to experts for further examination.

James Wright, a senior biologist at the National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth, said: "These are a fairly common fish off Tenerife, Malta and Cyprus but it is very rare to get them this far north. It could be a single fish that was shoaling with a different species but it could be that there are more of them in our waters."

However, Wright's opinion was considered biased by many readers and the following picture was taken several hours after the publication of the story:

US Army's Experimental Uniform

Soldier fighting against Taliban

An unlucky soldier (Zachary Boyd) was caught while returning the fire in Afghanistan by a passing photographer. Boyd was wearing his favorite "I love NY" underwear when an ambush occurred at his camp, forcing him to engage in combat with nothing but his rifle, backpack and helmet. He was recently promoted to an army specialist and was afraid that the President would dismiss him from military service after seeing the photos.

Maggie Simpson Finally speaks

We've been waiting for this moment since 1989 - Maggie Simpson has finally grown up enough to speak. But, surprisingly - she speaks with Jodie Foster's voice. This kind of a scenario seems a little strange, but we'll see what would be next.

How Do Automatic Vacuum Cleaners Work?

iRobot Roomba Suction Path

SignalTheorist decided to show how iRobot's Roomba works in an unusual way. He turned off all lights in the room and started the cleaning cycle, capturing the process for 30 minutes using long exposure. The path of the device seems to be based on some strange algorithm, instead of a simple grid-like scheme. It would be interesting to see how it would go in a large empty room, or in a room full of small obstacles.

What Can You Transport Using a Bicycle?

In 1817 Karl von Drais invented a "two-weel running machine", which could be propelled by pushing off along the ground, just like in regular walking or running. Nowadays, bicycles are used for many various purposes, including those unforeseen by their first constructors.

Finnish Army Psychological Test

fintest

This is a psychological test, which must be passed by all Finnish Army recruits: both men and women. The goal of the test is to reveal potential psychological problems, which may require extra medical attention during military service.

The idea of the test is very simple. Recruits observe the chart and name the digits located inside the circles. Those who see all 6 digits are completely healthy. Those who fail to name more than one digit are required to take a color blindness test. Others - who fail to name only one digit, may have the following mental disorders:

Cannot see circle #1: Increased tendency towards aggression and violence. Additional physical exercise and contrast showers are recommended.

Circle #2: Below average intellectual abilities. No additional measures required.

Circle #3: Gluttony (potential obesity). Increased daily ration and sports activity. Working in sitting position and work on the kitchen are not recommended.

Circle #4: Sadism. Recruits with light forms of the disorder should be appointed to teaching staff. Recruits with heavy forms should be appointed to the disciplinary department.

Circle #5: Latent homosexuality. Strong, uncontrollable sexual attraction towards same-sex personnel is possible. No additional measures required.

Circle #6: Schizophrenia. Complete psychiatric examination is recommended.

iSnort is a new application for iPhone that allows you to simulate the snorting process. It is available for sale at the developer's website for 8$.

I don't recommend anyone to purchase iPhone to use this applet as it would be much more cheaper to get some real drugs instead :-)
